PAWS Celebrates International Spay Day with Free Neutering Services

Announcement:

Dear friends,

As part of our celebration of International Spay Day, PAWS is offering free neutering of pets at the PAWS Shelter http://parc.mefindhome.org for February 26 and 27, 2009.

Male dogs can only be accommodated on the morning of February 26.
Male cats will be scheduled on February 27.

Call us at 475-1688 for scheduling and please make sure to leave your name, phone number and a brief message on our answering machine (comes on after 5 rings).
A maximum of 2 pets per person, please.

Kindly be reminded of the following:
- Male pets must be completely healthy.
- Male pets must not be fed or given water 12 hours prior to operation
- Male pets must be in secure cages or carriers (properly labeled with the owner's name and contact numbers) when brought to the shelter at the designated time.
- Scheduling is IMPORTANT: Unscheduled pets (whose owners did not call to leave messages on our answering machine by February 25, 5pm) may not be accommodated for Spay Day/s and may be advised to avail of our regular low-cost neuter rates the following week.

Yesterday, we were at the Batasan National High School in QC for our short talk on Rabies Prevention, Spay-Neuter and Responsible Pet Ownership. Not a lot of students are aware that neutering is possible for pets, and that "kapon" is a humane procedure done by a licensed veterinarian. (Most students are aware of "kapon" only as a cruel method done with rubberbands in the provinces.)

We have our work cut out for us and we need everyone's help in promoting spay-neuter of all companion animals. Please do your share in forwarding or printing out and posting the attached poster.

Thank you!

Attention, Animal Welfare Advocates: Email Scam Alert!

Posted by siyerwin on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 2:00 PM

I received some very disturbing news this morning. Apparently, someone out there is using the name of The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to scam unwitting advocates. So we're sending out this warning to everyone not to send money to anyone claiming to be a representative of PAWS. Verify it first!

The modus operandi is simple: They will ask you for money for one purpose or another. The one that has been reported to us relates to the adoption of shelter animals. Some crooks are offering to ship out adoptable shelter animals overseas for a fee--- a la mail-order pets--- which of course is crazy! This does not and will never happen as potential adopters are required to personally go to the shelter. PAWS doesn't ship animals out to adoptive homes! They must come pick them up at the shelter!

While PAWS may ask people for cash donations, they will never ask you to send them to a bank account under the name of a person because PAWS has official bank accounts under its SEC-registered name: The Philippine Animal Welfare Organization (PAWS).

Simple clues to tell you of a possible email scam:

1. The recipient bank account name is under a person's name and not under the official PAWS account name.

The official PAWS banks are:

Philippine National Bank (PNB)
Account Number 072-830174-0
Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI)
Account Numbers:
US Dollar Account 3944-0021-61
Peso Savings 3943-0086-11

Official account name: The Philippine Animal Welfare Society

Send cash donations only to these accounts. Make checks payable only to "The Philippine Animal Welfare Society"

2. They are using dubious website addresses.

The official PAWS websites are:

http://www.paws.org.ph <--- Official PAWS domain

or

http://www.pitstopit.com/paws3 <--- The PAWS domain is frame-forwarded to this URL. PAWS website is hosted by www.pITstopit.com.

The official PAWS Yahoo!Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/whatsuppaws

The official PAWS Multiply: http://animaladvocates.multiply.com

Affiliate Blogs:
http://www.mefindhome.org
http://onlovinganimals.blogspot.com

If they give you or send you to website addresses different from the ones above, please report it to PAWS first by forwarding to philpaws @ yahoo.com

3. Their Reply-to email address is different from their From email address.

Take note that the PAWS official email address is philpaws @ yahoo.com. If you receive an email from philpaws @ yahoo.com asking for money, try pressing the "reply" button and see if the recipient email address is also philpaws @ yahoo.com. If it's not, then that's a clear attempt to make you think they are PAWS when they most likely are not. Report to PAWS right away.

As a rule of thumb, if something doesn't feel right, email or call PAWS for verification. Please help us foil these criminals.

PAWS Tel.: +63-2-4751688
Email: philpaws @ yahoo.com

Thank you very much!

I received some very disturbing news this morning. Apparently, someone out there is using the name of The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to ask for money from unwitting animal advocates. So we're sending out this warning to everyone not to donate to any entity telling you that they're PAWS unless you've verified their identity.

The modus operandi is simple: They will ask you for money for one purpose or another--- the one that has been reported so far relates to the adoption of shelter animals. Apparently, some crooks out there are offering to send out adoptable shelter animals a la mail-order pets, which of course is crazy. This does not and will never happen as we want to meet adopters personally and hence are required to personally go to the shelter.

While PAWS may ask people for cash and in-kind donations (they usually do it through their website or through their official YahooGroup), they will never ask you to send them to a bank account under the name of a person because PAWS has official bank accounts under its SEC-registered name: The Philippine Animal Welfare Organization (PAWS).

Simple clues to tell you of a possible email scam:

1. If the recipient bank account name is under a person's name and not under the official PAWS account name.

or

http://www.pitstopit.com/paws3 <--- The PAWS domain is frame-forwarded to this URL. PAWS website is hosted by www.pITstopit.com.

You may check the bank account details that I provided against the ones on the PAWS website. If they give you website addresses besides these ones and they're using it to ask for money, please report it to PAWS by forwarding to philpaws @ yahoo.com

The official mailing list for PAWS is their Yahoo!Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/whatsuppaws

If it's not, then that's a clear attempt to mislead. Report it to PAWS right away.
