The idea that propels this blog is simply the idea (or hope) that there is a huge number of animal-lovers out there who sympathizes with the plight of homeless animals and that a percentage of those animal-lovers are in fact online and are reading blogs (or blogging themselves). I really could not find any number or statistics to support such a claim but if you are reading this blog right now, something tells me that you are one of those people and that you are curious as to how you may be able to help.

The best way you can help, as far as this blog is concerned, is to adopt. The second best way is to tell other people to do so; or, at the very least, let them know about the problem and urge them to do the same as you have. The concept is not rocket science and is not even unique. But I believe that it can work. Word of mouth or, in this case, word of blog, is indeed a very powerful thing!

Here's what I have in mind: If you have a personal website, like a blog, or something like it, you will be able to help by simply linking up. Yes it's that simple. Just adding a snippet of code into the template or source code of your website or blog increases the chances of somebody (who has the resources and compassion) stumbling into and changing the lives of these poor homeless animals. That, after all, is this blog's bottomline: to get the homeless animals home at last.

I am willing to link back if you so wish. I have created a section in the sidebar of this blog to do just that and using a neat little tool called blogrolling to help me simplify the process. I have added the initial group of animal-friendly blogs or sites that have linked Me.Find.Home, along with some that have caught my admiration and support. If there are some that I missed, kindly drop me a line at sherwin [at] mefindhome.org.

Maraming salamat po.

    Hi Sherwin!

I'd read on the PAWS egroup that there'd be a volunteer orientation on July 1st. If I sent in my application tomorrow, would I still qualify for the said orientation? And how long would it take?

    Thanks. =)

    hazel

  3. By siyerwin on Jun 22, 2006, 10:29:00 PM

    Hazel,

i think you can attend the orientation regardless of whether you've submitted beforehand the application form or not. when our batch was oriented, i saw people filling up forms during/after. it wouldn't hurt if you can submit tomorrow so they'd have a good estimate of how many they should expect to come.

thanks, hazel. and see you there! :)

hello there! i linked you up. i'd like to have a white kitten too pero malayo-layo kasi ang PAWS, i'm not sure if i can visit any time soon.

I'm linking you on my blog. I have 8 dog and I think they're quite happy and healthy here naman. All are mongrels...2 of them sleep with me in my room.

I just love dogs. Although I'm from an Ilocano family, I simply refuse to eat dog meat when we go home in Abra. I would understand if it really was a part of a Igorot ritual but I can't stand it when they make a dog pulutan. I think it's just part of the macho culture to eat dog meat.

With 8 dogs I can't adopt any more but I want to link you up so I can help in my won way.

  7. By Rhea on Apr 2, 2007, 8:11:00 PM

I linked you. I already have 8 healthy dogs, all of them mongrels (2 of them stay with me in my room and house trained) and I can't adopt any more even if I wanted to. So I'm linking you on my blog as a way to help.

I hope we can popularize adopting pets from shelters instead of buying.

  8. By siyerwin on Apr 2, 2007, 9:14:00 PM

    Thanks, Rhea, for the link!

Wow, 8 dogs! They must be a handful. I have a cat and my head's already spinning. I applaud you for taking in that many dogs.

With help from more people like you, I'm sure we can give a louder voice for the homeless animals.

Again, thanks and do keep in touch! Are you a member of WhatsupPaws?

  9. By diane on Apr 17, 2007, 12:08:00 PM

our home have nine dogs [mostly mongrels], four mongrel pups, and four kitties. though id love to have more of 'em, my folks would kick me out of the house if i still adopt one, they've been asking me to give out the pups already, so saad. and so i just linked you up. hope more of paws babies find home soon.

  10. By siyerwin on Apr 17, 2007, 12:34:00 PM

    thanks, diane!

your home must be a really happy home for having that many cats and dogs! a hundred cat and dog licks to you! :-)

a link will go a long way. a number of homeless animals have been re-homed because of links! :-)

    see you around.

elow,, i'm not an animal lover but i do have a heart for animals,, that's why i'm seeking for your help. I have 5kittens and sadly, i can't keep them anymore eventhough i want to, i have no choice but to give them to shelter. We just rented a room kasi and taas pa, and there's a conflict na rin among our neighbors becoz of our increasing cats.. We've tried to gave it to our friends and relatives but they just suggested us to throw it away, and we can't do that. Sana ho matulungan nio yung kittens ko and tanggapin nio sila pag pinunta ko sila sa shelter nio. Thank you.

  12. By siyerwin on May 17, 2007, 5:32:00 PM

^hello. sorry for the very late response. we usually ask those who wish to abandon to try to look for homes themselves as the animal shelter is "filled to the rafters" while we are having great difficulty re-homing the animals currently residing there. please do reconsider your decision to abandon them as they have a very slim chance of getting adopted into a new home and a very very good chance of dying of broken hearts and sickness.

    Hello! :)

i've linked you in my multiply account and will link you in blogger as well.

i stumbled upon this site through a friend. i love animals! here at home we have 2 dogs, 2 turtles, a mouse and 10 cats. most of them cats were rescued from highways and some were left at our doorstep by strangers who know that we'd take the kitties in. ang sad when i hear endless stories of people abusing or abandoning their pets.

my friends and i would like to help, maybe volunteer. as much as i want to adopt, my dad wont let me YET hehe. i'll read the main page for info on how to join/volunteer. i'll join the mailing list na rin hehe. basta, i want to help kung ano man po ang magagawa ko :)

  14. By siyerwin on Jun 11, 2007, 1:20:00 AM

thanks, lee. links are essential to reaching this site's objectives--- which is to find more people like you! thank you for taking in homeless animals!!! i do hope you open your home to a few more from PARC. hehehe.

please stand by for the next volunteer orientation.

    see you around!

    hello sherwin!

My name is Marla and I adopted Rambo from Paws almost two years ago. I just want to tell everyone there at PAWS that Rambo is fine, though we moved to Cebu already. He has a new friend here and he tries to be the big brother. I hope more people are encouraged to adopt, not on the basis of breed but on chemistry:) good luck

    Marla

  16. By siyerwin on Oct 16, 2007, 1:15:00 PM

marla, thanks for dropping by! regards to rambo! send some pics naman pag meron. :)

we're also praying that the adoption rate goes up. with help from you and others like you, we might just see that happening. let's all spread the word!!!

  17. By jean on Dec 31, 2007, 7:18:00 AM

i wish there would be a lot of people who'll gonna adopt animals... kawawa naman kasi. Animals need our TLC din naman. I have 4 pet dogs, one is askal but I don't treat him differently from the rest. A dog is still a dog. I love them all. When one is sick, nalulungkot ako. Parang babies ko na sila.

Let's exchange links, I'll write about yout site sa blog ko so that people would be more aware about PAWS.

  18. By siyerwin on Jan 2, 2008, 10:47:00 PM

Thanks, Jean! I've linked you up.

I was in Manila this week to attend a company workshop and stayed at a 5 star hotel in the Greenbelt, Makati City area.

Due to the heightened security, dogs are deployed to check the cars upon entry to the hotel, and also to sniff the contents of bags at the personnel security gantry just outside the hotel lobby.

It is depressing to see the state the dogs were in. They were overworked, tired, listless and looked every bit depressed.

One of the dogs was quite thin - we could see his ribs. For 2 continuous days, we went back to the hotel at 10+pm, and left the hotel at 8am, and the same dogs were there working. This goes to show they work more than 12 hours every day. The dog checking the cars was especially overworked having to walk round the car non-stop car after car.

Please look into the welfare of these working dogs. They are obviously not given the care they are entitled to. I've not seen any dogs more sad than what's shown on their faces.

  27. By siyerwin on Mar 14, 2008, 1:43:00 PM

Kindly email us at philpaws@yahoo.com and sherwin @ mefindhome.org and give more details about the name, and perhaps location, of the hotel and the dogs. It would even be better if you were able to take pictures of the dogs. Kindly send them to us as well.

Thanks for your concern and hoping to hear from you the soonest.

    Sherwin

    to PAWS:
This is merely a comment, cause I'm sending you a message to ask for help. I really need your help.
Approximately, two years ago, my son adopt a cat. This cat is about to be thrown away by its owner, but my son asked the owner to have this cat instead. Naawa siya sa kuting. My son loves animals. Since three, he tried to take care of few animals that are about to be thrown away, cooked and to be eaten or some that are not needed by the owners. Our little backyard became a little private zoo of my son.But since all his pets slowly died and others are missing,we stop adopting pets for a while but then he adopt that kitten I mentioned at the start.
this kitten was just the start. He again saw a homeless kitten in the neighborhood and again adopt her. Then another one. Until we had six. three of them died of sickness. and the three left were kept by us. We love our pets. They have this habit of sleeping with us in our bed. And we let them. We all sleep in one bed for we only got one bed in my house.
But, two of them ere females, and we got a lot of male 'pusakal' (Pusang kalye) here in our place and got them pregnant.
To make my long story a little bit shorter, they got pregnant and so on and so forth. As of now, we have 29 cats and as Im doing this another one is on the labor. If I can guess she'll have at tleast four kittens.
Honestly, we can't give all this cats enough food. My husband is just aregular employee and I'm a housewife. we live in a house with only 35sqm floor area, just think about that. Luckily, we got plenty of vacant lots in the neighborhood where my cats spend their time playing if they are not sleeping inside our house.
People are suggesting na iligaw na lamang ang mga kittens (13 excluding the kittens that are about to be born) pero naaawa kami. Hindi namin kayang isipin na ang rest of them are sleeping soundly inside our house while the others are out there in the cold. I manage to feed them all by buying the cheapest fish at the public wet market every morning.that cost for about 40 to 60 pesos per kilo, as of now they eat about two kilos a day. But honestly, we are short in our everyday budget. our pets' food costs more than our food. I only got one child.
We are asking for your help, to find people who would adopt our kittens, and ask information how to keep my female cats from getting pregnant. We can't afford a vet check up, and expensive pet medicines. For now, most of our pets have cough and colds. Nakakaawa lalo na yung mga kuting kapag hindi makahinga because of colds. Nagkahawahan na sila. Bumabagsak na ang katawan nila. Thay got no appetite because most of them are sick. My son gets worried to see them 'matamlay'.
    So, please help us. please!!!

We have 6 dogs ( sorry but no breed ) who all grew up on dog food & rice combination. We're currently renting but will be transferring to a semi-permanent home in 3-4 months time. Unfortunately its small & we can only keep 2 dogs. I am at my wits end. A few people I know have jokingly offered to buy my dogs but Im a bit doubtful, our dogs might just end up on a plate. Much as it pains me but the only recourse I could think of is to put them to sleep. I would rather bury them myself than know that they would end up in someones stomach.

PLEASE, if someone could adopt them permanently or temporarily. If things work out, we are planning to get a bigger place in a year or two, if things work out as planned & then we could get them back.

Please text me at 09176127577 or email me: fye1467@yahoo.com.ph
