Hello. My name is Sherwin and I am a volunteer for the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). For the past half-dozen weeks or so, I have dedicated a portion of my saturday afternoons into trying to assist the organization and its volunteers in caring for the rescued animals at their animal shelter, referred to as the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center (PARC), located in Katipunan, Quezon City.

The shelter is overpopulated by rescued animals. I am a first-hand witness to the misery of these beautiful creatures, who are basically victims of people's ignorance. Let's admit it, most of us simply do not know much about responsible animal ownership/guardianship. And some are even downright cruel. That, however, is a matter that this blog is probably not going to dwell much in. In fact, Me.Find.Home is here simply to look for those select human beings who know and understand these poor animals and are willing to adopt them. This website is an experiment that will utilize the wide readership possibilities of photo-blogging, a fusion of my favorite hobbies and my strong affinity and love for animals, to try and support the adoption programs of PAWS.

The need to find homes for these beautiful animals is desperate. More are being abandoned than are being adopted. I implore every animal-loving individuals out there to help out by adopting or by referring people, who may be able to adopt, to this site. Me.Find.Home will provide portrait images of the animals that are up for adoption. If possible, it will also provide some information on the animals' personality and temperament. I'm hoping the pictures will get some of that infomation through. But please understand that I can only take pictures of these animals once every week. There are too many of them (some do not even have names yet). If you find the animals presented here to be unsuitable to your particular home setting for any reason whatsoever, please come visit the shelter anyway. I'm 100% sure that, with a little patience, you'll find one that's perfect for you and your home.

If you're thinking of getting an animal companion and are considering buying one from the malls, I urge you to get one from PARC instead. That way you'll be able to help out in a worthwhile cause while at the same time save a lot of your hard-earned money. These animals deserve a better chance at life!

To know more about the adoption process, please go to the PAWS website or give the shelter a call at (02)4751688. You can also get in touch with me through email: sherwin (underscore) castillo (at) yahoo (dot) co (dot) uk

The gorgeous cat pictured above is jeff the shelter cat, getting ready to spring at a playmate. He's one of the friendliest cat I've ever met. Go ask a volunteer and I'm sure they would know this fella.

The image used in the header is that of an abandoned cat kept in a cage to prevent him from running away and isolate him from the other sick cats. What do you reckon was he thinking about?

The pup is called Nicole. Playful as any other pup but quite gentle around people. Sadly, the family who promised to come bring her home hasn't returned to pick her up. It's been two weeks as of this posting. She waits still...

PS. All images in this blog are protected by copyright laws everywhere. Please do not use commercially without permission. If you're a fellow advocate and you need the images for animal welfare-related activities (e.g., show and tell to potential adopters), by all means go use the images as you see fit. I will really appreciate being informed of such activities though. Salamat ng marami.

Hi, I'm rache. I saw your article on Animal Scene, and I was really touched by what you wrote there. That's why I checked this blog. What really moved me was the pup named Nicole. I hope and pray she'll find a responsible owner who will take care of her and treat her as a family member. I have a dog also named Pacman, whom I really love, and I can't imagine him being left alone like that. I hope you'll continue your noble pursuit. More Power and God Bless!

  10. By siyerwin on Jul 10, 2006, 8:40:00 PM

thanks a lot, rache! Nicole will find a home, i just know it. we just need to help her a bit!

    hey siyerwin...

This site is really good. I'll be linking you up in my blog to help spread the word. Wish I could help more but then I'm allergic to dogs and cats and currently living in Singapore. How sad,'no? :(

  12. By siyerwin on Jul 15, 2006, 3:07:00 AM

thanks, sara!!! as far as this site is concerned, linking is the next best thing one can do to help besides adopting!

    singapore is lovely! take care!

Hi. this is a great site. I love dogs, but I don't have a pet currently due to house rules. Kaya lang, I noticed you have a link to PETA. I hope you know what PETA stands for and what they really believe. Their aims are different from animal welfare activists and in my opinion are totally wrong and misguided.
Aside from that, this is a good thing you are doing. More power to you and I hope to adopt someday.

  14. By mikEe on May 7, 2007, 12:16:00 PM

i really wish to adopt a dog.. but i know my parents would not allow me to.. i know i can adopt someday.. more power!

  15. By siyerwin on May 7, 2007, 9:59:00 PM

    Hello, mikee!

Thanks! There are other ways you can help while you wait for the time you can finally adopt. You can tell your friends about the homeless animals and you can do that by bringing them to this site.

Linking your personal blog or website to mefindhome gives better chances for the homeless animals to get noticed and, hopefully, adopted! It's worked in the past!

    Again thanks!

    Hey there.
I found out about PAWS in a magazine article, and ever since then I wanted to adopt. Although, my family lives a very busy city life, none of us are barely home, and I'd hate to leave a pet home alone, for hours a day.

It would be great if more people knew about this. Many people aren't aware that there even is an Animal Welfare center here in the Philippines! Its sad that people choose pure bred pets, most of which have a bad personality (from my experience) when they can get an equally cute pet with a great heart!

More power to you, the animals are in my prayers. :) And you guys are linked to my blog, I just hope that my blog will become as read as my old one. :D

    thank you very much!

  20. By dani on Feb 14, 2008, 5:54:00 PM

i want to adopt soon, kaya lang not right now, kasi under reconstruction house namin :) but i will swing by one of these days sa shelter to look at the animals. say do you only have cats and dogs? meron bang ibang animals?
meron ba kayong kitty na ok lang sa ibon? kasi meron kaming parrot most of the time nasa loob sya ng bahay.

  21. By siyerwin on Feb 19, 2008, 12:39:00 PM

Hello, Dani! :) You're very welcome to drop by the shelter. Dami aso't pusa dun mahihirapan ka mimili! :)

It will be hard to say which cats would be bird-friendly as we have over 80 cats right now and most of them are abandoned. I'd urge you to do a little research on the matter before introducing a cat into a house with a parrot resident.

  22. By Anonymous on Mar 7, 2008, 11:59:00 AM

    Hi!
I really love your blog and I'm so happy I found this. :D Just wondering, do they let you adopt a cat if someone in the family is allergic to it?

Hope you answer my question 'cause my family and I want to adopt a cat...Soon!

  26. By siyerwin on Aug 6, 2008, 12:46:00 PM

Hi, Anna. Depends siguro. Pero if someone is allergic, are you guys sure you want to adopt. This might become a problem in the future that will force you to give the animal away.

For more info, I suggest you get in touch with PAWS through 4751688.

Thanks for finding this blog. :) Hope to see you around!

  32. By Z @ DGH on Dec 20, 2008, 11:33:00 AM

    Greetings,

Do you guys know about theanimalrescuesite.com? Perhaps you can form some kind of partnership & be even more effective. Just a suggestion. I'm in the U.S. & don't know anyone in the Philippines but I think that organization is international. If they're not, maybe a collaboration will make it so.

Hello, just wanted to drop a note and say thanks for this blog. It's from your entries that I learned of the donations needed by the shelter. I dropped off some things earlier at PARC and am considering to be a volunteer. I've filled up a form, so i hope to see you during one of the orientations!

haseyama08 - I remember reading that for young volunteers, you need to have your parent's consent and signature. :D

  44. By Tiff on Sep 27, 2009, 11:54:00 PM

Hi, I want to be a volunteer. I used to have pet cats. I so love them but our neighbors would ALWAYS poison them. I live in a village where people despise animals. Is there a law that protects our friends?

  45. By Anonymous on Sep 28, 2009, 11:39:00 AM

If only my hands arent too tied taking care of my daughter, I would love to adopt an animal. Perhaps when my daughter gets a bit bigger. I'll keep you posted :) Thank heavens there are people like you who care for these animals. They are, after all, God's creation and we have the responsibility to take care of them right? :) God bless! :) -Belle

i'm interested in adopting a dog or two.. we used to have 8 dogs at home, 7 border collies and a pitbull. just a month ago, 7 of them succumbed to hepatitis in a quick span of time. needless to say, their death has deeply devastated us...up till now we're still not used to the fact that they're gone..luckily, we still have 1 left and he has been spoilt even more since then. I'm glad I found your website as I was planning initially to buy puppies, but knowing now the plight of lots of dogs without homes, I've decided to adopt instead....i hope i can have one of your shelter dogs be part of our family and we will make sure he will be showered with lots of love and care...

like in the US, maybe the Philippines should promote spaying and neutering to minimize stray cats and dogs (and other animals too)... i've seen how cruel people can be towards helpless animals... all these pets want is to have a good home and be loved and in return they will love you as well... I may not be a volunteer but in my own way I rescue cats (kittens)... i take them home and become my best friends... THANK YOU to those who volunteer and adopt from the shelter... how can anyone resist a cute pet, just one look and you'll fall in love... I adopted a chihuahua 3 years ago and he is my baby...

Hello, I'm Angeline. Can I still adopt Nicole? Since, in your blog it says that the family who promised to take care of her has still not yet come? Oh, please! I really like her, because for me, it's better to adopt an animal because surely, those animals that are sold have more chances of a good life. Right? I hope you can contact me. Thank You!

BTW: This is my Yahoo mail, mafmallonga@ymail.com

P.S: Please contact me as soon as possible because I am planning to adopt as soon as possible.

Thank You for taking good care and for showing them LOVE.
